Location of RwandaThe flag was established in 2001 during the trends for democracy. In 2001, the national flag and emblem were renewed alongside national reform. It is said that the red color, which connotates blood, was eliminated to help surpress conflicts among the ethnic tribes. The yellow sun on the upper right represents the light of hope which leads people to unity, and the light stripes express conflict and enlightenment of ignorance. Blue represents the sky, happiness, and peace, yellow, economical advancement, and green, the rich resources.
