The light blue and green colors are divided into triangles with the diagonal yellow line. The light blue represents the water resources such as the Pacific Ocean or rain, green, the forests that cover the national land, and yellow, the sun. The five stars in the upper left symbolizes the Southern Cross and represents the five main islands. The current flag was instituted in 1977, after the autonomous government was established as the Solomon Islands.
