The upper portion of the green based flag is the new moon and five stars, and on the left is a red vertically banded design with rug designs, a traditional industry. It is said that the combination of the green color and the new moon is the symbol of Islam and that the five rug patterns represent the five representative ethnic groups. Also, the five stars is said to represent the five sense of humans or the five provinces that constitute the nation.
