There are various myths regarding the red and yellow bi-color, but some say that the yellow symbolizes the empire, while the red expresses the blood shed to protect the nation or that it simply was the color mainly used for heraldic emblems in Castilla, Aragon, and Navarra kingdoms. The national emblem is composed of five designs - castle, lion, vertical stripes, chain, and pomegranates.
