Location of San MarinoAfter establishing autonomy and independence as a modern nation in 1862, the current flag was made official. It is said that white represents purity or clouds, or snow that covers the Titano mountains in the winter. The blue is said to express the sky or the Adriatic Sea. Im the center is the national emblem, and in the shield is the monuments that have been built on the three peaks of the Titano mountains. Below the national emblem is written "LIBERTAS" (freedom).
