Flag of Italy image

Location of ItalyAt the end of the 18th century, a vertically divided military flag was made from the white and green colors of the citizens' militia uniform and the red color of accessories of the North Italian Transpadane Republic, defeated by Napoleon. The flag has become the base model for today's Italian flag. The three colored flag was abolished after Napoleon's fall from power, and although the design changed a number of times since, along with the 1946 abolishment of monarchy, the current flag was made official.
