Since its independence in 1946, the flag has changed designs six times. The current design is horizontally divided between Arabic colors red, white, and black, and in the middle is two green stars. This version was used in the United Republic days with Egypt and was revived in 1980. It is said that the two stars used to symbolize the two countries. The red symbolizes the dagger that protects the country, white, the good of the citizens, and black, the past wars.
