The base model of the current flag was developed in 1897. It was proposed by Emilio Aguinaldo, who after the declaration of independence, became the first President. The white triangle represent peace and friendship, blue, peace, truth, and justice, and red, patriotism and courage. The eight streaks of sunlight represent the first eight states that rebelled against Spain, the three stars are Phillipine's main islands, Luzon Island, Mindanao Island, and Visayas Islands.
