Below the three parts colored in red and blue is the Mongol's original national symbol Soyombo. When it was first chosen in 1949, the star, which symbolizes socialism was depicted above the Soyombo. Blue in the center represent "the eternal blue sky" while red on both sides represent "advancement and prosperity". Soyombo is composed of three flames symbolizing the past, present, and future, the sun and moon symbolizing eternal communion, the downward triangle symbolizing the spear that defeats the enemy.
