The current flag was made official when the nation gained independence on August 6th 1962. The entire design expresses that "Even when the nation is struggling, the national land is full of lust green and the sun is shining". Black represents challenges that should be faced and overcome, gold (yellow) the luscious nature and sunshine, green, hope and atricultural resources. Also, black is said to represent black people. The X shaped design represents faithful loyalty to Christianity.
