Location of Saint Vincent and the GrenadinesThe nation gained independence in 1079, and the national flag was made official in 1985. At the time of independence, a breadfruit tree was depicted in the center. The three diamonds in the center of the current flag is called "Gems of the Antilles", and represents the founder St. Vincentio's V and the approximately 600 islands in the nation. Blue epxresses the Caribbean sea and sky, yellow, the sun and sand, green, agricultural produce and vitality of the citizens.
