In 1818, two years after independence, the current flag was officialized. It is said that it was Manual Belgrano, who led the independence movement, that designed the flag. In the center of the blue, white, and blue horizontally divided flag, is the the yellow heraldic emblem. This is called the "The Sun of May". The sun that rose after long days of rain on May 25th 1810 when the independence war started came to be the symbol of independence.
