It is said that the model of the current flag was created during the independence movement in the 1920s. The FLN (Front de Liberation National) which led the intense independence war from 1954 used a flag very similar to the current national flag. At the time of independence the design was defined to the very details and made the national flag. There are no official explanations on the colors or the motifs.
