It was ordered that a yellow cross be depicted in the national flag in the 1569 edict, and it is said that the model of the current flag was developed with the 1663 edict. The blue and yellow colors are based on the royal emblem since the 14th century. The center of the cross slided to the left is the "Scandinavian Cross" design, and is derived from the Danish national flag. It is thought that the design is also influenced by the legend on how 12th centry Eric Ⅸ saw a golden cross in the blue sky.
