A horizontally divided design with colors that are considered to be Slavic - red, blue, and white - and with the national emblem placed on the left side. This emblem is based on part of the heraldic emblem from 12th century Hungary. Two horizontal lines make the double cross, also know as the Lorraine Cross. The blue portions depicting the national emblem expresses the three hills, and refers to the the national symbols such as the Tatra Mountains and Fatra Mountains.
