The Vietnam flag is referred to as the "red star red flag". Originally being the anti-France flag in one of the South Vietnam regions, the red flag with one yellow star was designed and presented by the revolutionary Nguyen Huu Tien. He became victim to the battles the following year, but the flag was made official as the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (North Vietnam). Red represents blood shed for the revolution for independence and the five cornered star, the workers, farmers, intellectuals and youth.
