The basic Arabic colors of red, black, green, and white are used. The red triangle and the the horizontally divided black, white, and green flag is derived from the flag that was used when the King Hussein fom the Kingdom of Hejaz in the Arabic Peninsula and his Arabic army fought with the Ottoman Empire. The seven cornered star was added after the establishment of the Trans-Jordan Kingdom in 1928 and represents the opening seven verses of the Islamic holy Quran.
