From the Gran Columbian days, flags using colors yellow, blue, and red were used, but it was 1861 that the design with a wider portion of yellow came to be used. In Columbia, yellow often represents independence and justice, blue, nobility, loyalty and caution, red, courage, honor, acceptance, and sacrifice. In addition, it is said that yellow symbolizes gold, blue, the two seas, red, blood shed for freedom.
