Green represents agriculture, natural resources, and the hilly region, which is representative of the geography in the inland areas, and blue, the Atlantic Ocean and Free Town, which is one of the best ports in West Africa, reflecting hopes for growth as a maritime nation. Also, white symbolizes peace and justice. The current green, white, and blue horizontally divided flag was established when the nation gained independence from the British colonies in 1975.
