Although the current flag was established in 2006, it was originally used at the time of independence in 1966. With the 40th anniversary of independence in 2006, the flag was made official. In the center is the conical straw hat, which represents the identity of the Lesotho people. Its black color conveys the proud black lands. The base color blue represents the rain, white, peace, and green, the rich blessings from the national land and prosperity.
