In 1991, an interim adiministration was established, and the current flag was made official in 1995. Red represents citizens' blood shed for independence, blue, the Red Sea , green, the rich agricultural blessings. The yellow heraldic emblem is that of what was used in the former Ethiopia-Eritrea federation flag - a circular olive branch. This represents the victory and freedom attained through the independence war and the bright hopes for the future.
