Many reforms were carried out by President Chavez in 2006, and the national flag was one of them. In the center are the eight stars that represent the seven states and the Guayana region at the time of independence. In the upper left is the design of national emblem with its moteif of a horse running forward. The yellow, blue, and red horizontally divided colors are consistent with the countries that consituted Gran Columbia in the past - Venezuela, Columbia, and Ecuador.
