The design was selected when the nation gained autonomy in 1967. After independence in 1979, some revisions were made and established the current flag. The design was made by Dunstan St. Omer who leads the St. Lucia art world. The St. Lucian blue, which represents loyalty, reflect the sky of the tropics and colors of the Caribean Sea and Pacific Ocean. Gold (yellow) symbolizes the sunlight and prosperity, and black and white, the harmony between Black and Caucasion cultures.
