The base of the flag was derived from Federal Republic of Central America. White represents the purity of the national land and Nicuaragua, and blue, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans that surround the country. In the center is the national emblem, and around the triangle is written in Spanish "Republic of Nicuaragua" and "Central America".
