Made official in 1966 when independence was attained, the flag is called the "Golden Arrowhead". It was designed by Whitney Smith, the promiment vexillologist. Green expresses how 90% of the national land is covered by green forests and plain fields, yellow, how the golden future that citizens hope for depends on the usage of mineral resources. White expresses the rich water resource, and red, sacrifice necessary to establish the nation.
