The model of the flag was made in 1851, but since then the national emblem was added in the center in 1888. The red, yellow, and green horizontally divided design is from the influence of Gran Columbia days. Red represents the blood of heroes, yellow, mineral resources, green, the forest resources. In the center is the national emblem which depicts the condor, alpaka, Potosi, and the Inca culture.
