The current flag was established when the nation gained independence in 1973 as a crown colony of the United Kingdom. Black represents the vitaility of the unified people, aquamarine (blue), the ocean, gold (yellow), the sunlight and the golden beach sand. It is said that the triangle represents, the determination of the people to develop rich resources or their strong sense of unity. Also, black represents the African Black people.
