The yellow bird depicted on the left is the bird engraved in the Great Zimbabwe ruins and one that symbolizes Zimbabwe today. The star in the back of the bird represents hope for the nation and the white triangle, peace after independence. The horizontal green stripe represents the natural land and vegetational resources, yellow, the underground resources, red, the blood of those who sacrificed in the independence war, and black, the people of Zimbabwe. The flag was officialized when the new Zimbabwe with African autonomy was established in 1980.
