The current national flag was established in 1964, based on the flags of Tanganyika and Zanzibar before the establishment of the federal repulic nation. Blue, black, and green were used in the Tanganyika flag, while the Zanzibar flag used black, yellow, and blue. Black in the Tanzanian flag is said to represent the people, green, the land, blue, the sea, and gold (yellow) the mineral resources.
