The flag was established in 1959, before the independence in 1960. Orange represents the norther Sahara deserts and independence, white, peace and the Savanna regions, green, the southern and western farm lands, crops, and prosperity, and the orange circle in the center, the sun. The sun symbolizes not only blessings but also the strong determination of the people to protect rights.
